Edwardian 18k Gold Gimbal Compass Pendant Johan G Kjærland with open back settingsDATE: Edwardian, c. 1909 This fantastic gimbal compass dates from the Edwardian period, dated 5th July, 1909. Crafted in rich 18 karat yellow gold throughout, the gimbal mechanism is constructed of two sets of pivotal supports, allowing rotation for the compass to be read correctly. These were used to help sailors, despite the motion of the ship. It remains in great condition, and the compass face features gorgeous black enamel against a pearlescent
